“Finding confidence through makeup”… Namyangju City supports self-styling for people with developmental disabilities

Hello! Today, we are sharing a very special collaboration that is making our society warmer and more beautiful.

It is welcome news that Namyangju City is launching a meaningful beauty styling project to encourage independent living and social participation among women with developmental disabilities. Going beyond simple beauty education, this warm partnership seeks true social inclusion through cooperation with a local university. Let us introduce this inspiring initiative.

Connecting me and us through makeup, Makeup Now

On May 21, 2026, Namyangju Welfare Center for the Disabled joined hands with the Department of Broadcasting Hair and Beauty Arts at Induk University to promote a special capacity-building project for women with developmental disabilities. This business agreement was made possible with the warm support of the Community Chest of Korea in northern Gyeonggi.

It is especially meaningful because it is part of the “Make Up-Now (Makeup Now-Connecting Me and Us Through Makeup)” program, which was finally selected for the “2026 Social Welfare Grant Project” of the Namyangju Welfare Foundation. This project aims to raise each participant’s self-esteem through the familiar medium of makeup and build stronger connections among members of our society.

A beautiful journey with university student buddies

What makes this project even more special is that university students majoring in the field will participate directly as citizen advocates called “buddies” and work one-on-one with people with developmental disabilities. Students from the Department of Broadcasting Hair and Beauty Arts at Induk University will fully use their major-related expertise and trendy youth sensibility to teach customized self-styling methods to participants.

Rather than remaining one-way education of teaching and learning, the program is expected to become a valuable time of communication where participants naturally build peer relationships and deepen mutual understanding.

Through this exchange, positive ripple effects are also expected, including the activation of natural citizen advocacy activities within the local community.

Warm hands that will brighten the 20th anniversary event

Participants who master self-styling will not stop at the learning stage. They will be reborn as key figures who practice greater sharing.

They are scheduled to play a leading role by personally helping style other neighbors with developmental disabilities at the upcoming 20th anniversary event of Namyangju Welfare Center for the Disabled, “Twenty Seasons, the Twenty-First Promise.” This creates a beautiful virtuous cycle in which the skills and confidence gained through learning are returned to the local community.

We are already looking forward to the touching moments when those who have discovered their own value grow into reliable supporters who help others.

Synergy created by the local community and the welfare field

Kim So Young, director of Namyangju Welfare Center for the Disabled, has high expectations for the positive changes that the vibrant energy of young people will bring to people with developmental disabilities.

“We hope the youthful sense and energy delivered by university student buddies will become a great source of strength that gives confidence to women with developmental disabilities. Based on close cooperation with Induk University, the welfare center will spare no support to create the best synergy.”

In this way, the welfare center firmly expressed its commitment to providing full administrative and physical support.

An official from Namyangju City also expects this agreement to become an exemplary case of a detailed citizen advocacy system based in the local community.

“This cooperation between a local university and the welfare field will become a meaningful example of building a community-based citizen advocacy system. We will continue to provide policy support so that disability sensitivity can be improved and practical community inclusion can be achieved.”

The city added its commitment to making continuous efforts to create a society where people with and without disabilities live together, rather than letting this remain a temporary event.

A beautiful step toward independence and inclusion

Celebrating its meaningful 20th anniversary in 2026, Namyangju Welfare Center for the Disabled has long dedicated itself to supporting the practical independence and improved quality of life of local people with disabilities. The Makeup Now project is being evaluated as a successful effort that expresses the welfare center’s value of social inclusion in the most intuitive and refined way.

The process of people with developmental disabilities taking care of their own appearance and even supporting the styling of others will serve as an excellent opportunity to break down social prejudice. We hope the organic solidarity between the university and the local welfare network becomes a strong foundation for building a warm community with no one left behind, and we support the continued spread of independence support projects based on restoring self-esteem.

Hoping that these warm changes of finding confidence and independence through beauty will continue, will carry on practical support through reliable pharmaceutical and cosmetics distribution so that all members of society can equally enjoy healthy and excellent beauty values.
